This is the first time in Palestine that Muslim women and pious women take part in the conflict on Al-Haram al-Sharif. Since 1970, the Muslim Palestinian women participated in many political and social activities by Hamas Movement in universities and Muslim Palestinian associations. In the past, secular Palestinian women took part in the conflict in national Palestinian movement, but now the pious Palestinian women take a big role in the conflict and became political power and encourage the youth for Intifada against Jewish groups to prevent them from taking over Al-Haram al-Sharif. In short, pious Palestinian women became members in Palestinian Parliament and became members in political committee for Islamic movements.
In addition, pious Palestinian women created many social and culture and methodology to educate girls and women inside the Haram how to face and stop the Jewish groups activities in the Haram.
Finally, the experience of Palestinian Muslim women in the struggle against the Israeli occupation was also linked to their access to their political rights, but their social rights, as al-Murabitat said, are guaranteed by Islamic Shari’a and were a model similar to the struggle of Muslim women in Egypt and Syria.
The struggle of Palestinian Muslim women was not only in Jerusalem, but also extended in their relations to Muslim women in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and within Israel, where they were able to establish a Muslim feminist movement called al-Murabitat movement, whose primary goal was political to prevent Jewish groups from taking control of Al-Aqsa Mosque and its ambitions to gain senior political positions within Hamas and its political bureau.
